“When Shiva the Great Yogin chooses to become the Lord of the Dance, Nataraja, the universe appears as Consciousness in its most ecstatic forms: as art and play, as knowledge and beauty, as the very embodiment of awareness in the form of the Self.” —From Clothed in Consciousness: Nataraja in the Tantric Tradition by Dr. Douglas Brooks

About Certified Anusara Yoga® Instructor Ulla Lundgren

My first experience with yoga was in my native country Sweden during the mid 80s. Acting (my former vocation) brought me to Los Angeles in 1988, where I began a continuous yoga asana practice a year later. After receiving my first yoga teacher certification, I began teaching in 1995. That same year, I began studying Ashtanga vinyasa yoga with Tim Miller and David Swenson; for the next 6 years, I continued my studies with Tim and David.

In the fall of 2001, I met John Friend and fell in love with Anusara Yoga®. In my first class with John, I felt like I had come home: Anusara was the yoga I had been longing for in the depth of my heart. After more than 800 hours of studies — including numerous teacher trainings and apprenticeships with John Friend and other senior instructors — I received my Anusara Yoga® certification in the fall of 2005.

In 1997, I founded The Yoga Experience, now a thriving Anusara Yoga® studio in Flagstaff, Arizona. Currently I am teaching workshops, immersions, teacher’s trainings, and retreats in the U.S. and Europe, and will soon start teaching weekly classes in my new home of Bend, Oregon. My life and teaching are both inspired by my brilliant teachers: Anusara Yoga® founder John Friend and Dr. Douglas Brooks. Dr. Brooks is one of the world’s foremost scholars of Hindu Tantrism and the esoteric traditions of the Goddess. I love to integrate yoga philosophy, myths, and stories into my classes. My teaching style blends fun and adventure balanced with mindful attention to physical alignment as well as alignment with one’s heart, inner intentions, and hopes for living a truly meaningful life.

Ulla's familyWhen I am not teaching, studying, or practicing yoga, I enjoy spending time with my husband Jeff, going to the movies, hiking, skiing, and hanging out in my garden with my feline family members.
